FAQ about the St. Blase MOMS Group - Moms Offering Moms Support

Our Mission Statement
Are you in need of support, encouragement, advice and friendship as you raise godly children? This task at hand is one that requires much energy and time. Through discussion, prayer and camaraderie the St. Blase MOMS Group provides Christian fellowship for moms and dads while including our children.

We, as Christian women, have bonded together to form an organization built on the foundation of providing support, encouragement, advice and friendship to mothers with children of all ages. Through discussion and prayer, our focus is on our common values and the ultimate goal of raising godly children in a nurturing, loving home.

Raising children is an awesome task. It takes an incredible amount of physical and emotional energy to be a parent and manage a household. Whether working outside the home or as a stay-at-home parent, finding time to meet other people and share what is happening in their family life is challenging. It is easy for parents to retreat into their families and homes and lose sight of their calling and capacity to share their time and talents with new people.

Making new friendships can take longer for those of us in this stage of life. Unlike our high school or college days, we can't go out in the evening without arranging for child care. Also much of our thought life is consumed with caring for children and managing our work/household priorities. Raising children is an incredible blessing, so it should rightly consume much of our thought life and physical and emotional energy. We do our children a grave disservice when we aren't demonstrating consistently what it means to "love your neighbor as yourself."

Clearly, as parents, we must be creative in trying to find ways to create a Christian fellowship. One way to do this is to find ways to include our children as we reach out to others. St. Blase's MOMS Group creates one context for doing just that. Groups such as ours give parents a chance to make new friends, to share problems with other parents who have older children, or just to get out of the house.

History
St. Blase MOMS Group was established in 2002. We meet every 2nd Tuesday of the month, excluding the summer, for an hour and a half at the St. Blase Parish Center. We discuss topics ranging from parenting skills to faith issues while the children are cared for in an adjoining room. We coordinate a play group or outing once a month and also schedule a much needed Mom's night out once a month. The importance of support should not be underestimated. Our group is not just for stay-at-home moms; dads and moms working outside the home are welcome too. New members are always welcomed and needed to bring fresh insight and inspiration. Contact the Parish Office for more details at (586) 268-2244.

Toy Cleaning Ministry
The toy cleaning ministry helps during the times that the church offers child care, a number of toys are available for the children to play with, including books, games and low tables. All these items need to be wiped down, cleaned and disinfected on a weekly basis. If you would like to join a cleaning team, you would need to have about an hour available in the afternoon. Full instructions, rotating schedules, and all supplies will be provided. Contact the Parish Office for more details at (586) 268-2244.
