Welcome to St. Blase Catholic Community

We are a welcoming Catholic community where the love of Jesus Christ is learned and lived; sung and shared.
~Pentecost 2006

WHAT'S NEW IN OUR COMMUNITY
- Last revised: February 3, 2012 4:24 PM

St. Blase was bishop of the city of Sebaste in Armenia in the early part of the 4th century. Even though the Edict of Milan (311) had brought religious tolerance to the Roman Empire, word of that edict had not reached Armenia (apparently there was no internet, television or telephones in those days — how did they ever survive?!) Under persecution, the bishop Blase was forced to take refuge in the wilderness. He lived as a hermit, making friends with the animals and spending his days in solitude and prayer.

THIS FRIDAY IS THE FEAST DAY OF ST. BLASE, OUR PATRON.

An evening prayer, blessing throats, and enjoy a delicious dinner and enjoy the Irish band, “Blackthorn.”

You do not want to miss out on what will be an enjoyable and relaxing evening. Fr. Randy Phillips will be blessing throats again from 5:00 – 5:30 in the evening.

One day a group of hunters came upon Blase’s cave. They were dumbstruck, because they found Blase, who was a wanted man for being the leader of the Christians, kneeling in prayer and surrounded by wild animals. Chasing the animals away the hunters brought Blase back to Sebaste to be arrested. (I hope you see the irony in that.) Legend has it that while he was being taken to prison a mother approached him with her young son who was choking on a fish bone. As Blase prayed over the child and blessed him, he coughed up the fish bone and his life was saved. Blase was eventually beaten, tortured and beheaded, a needless martyrdom given the Edict of Milan. So as we honor our patron as bishop, martyr and healer, he also places us in solidarity with all who have died needlessly through human error or ignorance.

Did you know that probably someone you know is interested in learning more about being Catholic but don’t know where to begin? Well, guess what, they can begin with you. Just talk to them about what you believe and why you go to church and get involved in the many things we do within this community. That may be just the nudge they need to find out more and when they do, I am ready, willing and able to help them.

Think for a moment about the many gifts you have given to people in your life. Imagine giving someone the gift of faith by helping them become Catholic. You don’t have to wrap it and it is a gift that just keeps on giving.

Haiti Outreach Mission - Issue 2 July 2011

Beginning in Advent the Catholic Church in the USA will change some of the prayers we say during mass. Hopefully you have been reading about this in the bulletin and have seen the changes on the bulletin boards in the Gathering Space. Over 60 people attended the four-part series last month that explained how we got to this point in time.Didn't have time to come to the four-part series?

Take a moment to go to www.youtube.com/user/SaintBlaseChurch. There you will find videos of the new setting of The Gloria as well as The Eucharistic Prayer and more.
