Loving God, the provider of all our
needs, we, your faithful people, ask that you bless this parish
and our Diocese with an increase of men and women for priestly
and committed ministry.
Help us all to discern and pursue our vocation in life with strength
and courage, making of us a priestly people. We ask this through
Jesus Christ, Your Son, the priest and servant of our hearts.
Amen.

from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

Try
It On!
When you come home at night and the rooms are all dark, you might
as well be blind. You don't know where you're going until you turn
on a light. Sometimes, life is like that too. You don't know where
you're going.
So increase the Light. Ask God to reveal what path you should take:
marriage, single life, priesthood or religious life.

We are Seeking Disciples
to Serve on the Vocations Committee
Our mandate is to help parishioners to ask and explore the question
of God's purpose for their lives. The answer is personal and unique
for all lifestyles: married, single, and divorced; those still raising
children and "empty-nesters;" "cradle Catholics,"
new converts, and "fallen away" Catholics who believe
God may be calling them back to the Church.
So ask yourself, might I be interested in learning and spreading
the word about vocational discernment? The Vocations Committee advocates
the necessity of discerning God's call. Is God calling me to live
a celibate life as an ordained priest or deacon, religious sister
or brother? Am I called to the single life? Is God calling me to
the married life? A vocation is a call from God to a distinctive
state of life, in which the person can reach holiness. To which
vocation does God call me?
Having asked this all-important question, how then am I to find
an answer? Although some people experience dramatic visions or other
overt signals from God telling them exactly what to do, most of
us make the effort to find the right path for us and, equally important,
walk down it. The Vocations Committee advocates vocational discernment
by:
- Inviting everyone in our faith community to ask, "What
does God call me to do with my life?"
- Raising awareness about the need to explore and answer God's
call.
- Conceiving and offering opportunities for vocational discernment.
- Presenting the priesthood and religious life as a fulfilling,
viable vocation in the modern world.
- Honoring the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony.
Service to the Vocations Committee is not binding. We invite you
to participate in three or four monthly meetings on a trial basis.
