Catholic Schools: A Good
Investment
 |
Catholic Schools Week
The last week in January - first week of February
is designated Catholic Schools Week, an annual national
celebration of the contributions of Catholic schools to
American education and the Church. Catholic elementary and
secondary schools provide our children with a Christ-centered
quality education with high academic standards in a disciplined
learning environment designed to nurture character, compassion,
and values. Show your support of our Catholic Schools by
spreading the good word about Catholic education to all
parents with school-age children and attending one of the
many local events being held in honor of Catholic Schools
Week.

Make the Choice of a Catholic Education!
From a tradition of academic excellence and high moral standards
to a strong faith-centered community of educators and parents, all
within a safe learning environment, Catholic schools offer the foundation
that children need to succeed, now and throughout their lives. Registrations
are still being accepted for new students at Catholic schools in
the Archdiocese of Detroit.
High School Placement Test: Scholastic High School Placement
Test for 8th graders
Eighth graders may take the Placement Test regardless of which school(s)
the student wishes to apply. At the time of the test, students will
be encouraged to complete first and second choice cards to be sent
to the High Schools of their choice. Please contact the individual
school administering the Placement Test ahead of time to verify
testing hours and fee.
What Makes Catholic Schools Unique?
- Christ-centered quality education
Catholic schools integrate our faith and Gospel values into every
part of the educational experience, whether a student is in the
classroom, on the athletic field, or in the chapel. A student
learns to think and act according to the mind and heart of Jesus
Christ.
- Dedicated administrators, teachers and staff
While parents are the primary educators of their children, Catholic
schools provide a "second home" in a collaborative community
of parents and educators, where morals and values are supported
and complemented by those who serve as role models in the faith.
Many Catholic school alumni share lifelong memories and relationships
with those persons who taught, coached or simply encouraged them
with a kind word or smile.
- High academic standards
Catholic school students are encouraged and challenged to achieve
their fullest potential as individuals. In 2005, Catholic elementary
students in the Archdiocese of Detroit ranked 20 or more points
higher than national norms and 10 or more points higher than private
school norms on IOWA Achievement Tests. 98% of 2005 Catholic High
School graduates in the Archdiocese of Detroit went on to attend
a college or university.
- Well-rounded curriculum
Catholic schools educate the "whole" child mind,
body, and soul. Through a solid academic core, variety of extracurricular
offerings, and opportunities to worship and practice the faith,
students are given the tools to build a strong foundation for
life and become contributing members of their community and Church.
- Safe and structured learning environment
Students learn best in an atmosphere where they feel safe, valued,
and cared for. Catholic schools set high standards for student
behavior and appearance, which fosters self-discipline, confidence,
responsibility, and respect for all persons.
Concerned about Financial Cost
Considering a Catholic school education for your child but concerned
about financial cost? Consider the value received. A Catholic school
education equips children to succeed through a strong foundation
of academics and moral values - an investment with many returns
throughout life. The Archdiocese of Detroit offers several options
to assist families in meeting tuition needs. In addition many elementary
and secondary schools offer financial aid through their own tuition
endowment and trust programs. Ask the individual school administrator
about these possibilities for your child as well.
